Life 11 days post op… need food – send help

Now that I got you caught up I can write in the moment. Feels kinda weird! I’m 11 days post op and feeling pretty dang good! I just got home from a nice long walk without any issues – the weather is gorgeous! I can now drink 4oz in one sitting, so it’s a bit easier to get my fluids in each day. I’m doing 4-8oz an hour! What I don’t understand is how I’m going to get my fluids in once I’m doing puree. We eat for about 30, and then it’s another 30 of no drinking…. That’s 1 whole hour gone of no fluids *shrug*

Everyday now, I’m faced with temptations. Not only is the boyfriend eating all these amazing things around me, but I’ve missed cooking so I’ve been making him breakfast some mornings. This is especially difficult for me because I absolutely love eggs, like in every single form. If I could choose one meal to have each day while still doing my liquids, it would probably be breakfast.

I don’t completely avoid seeing and smelling food. What’s weird is, I like to smell my boyfriends food and live vicariously through him. When I go to the store, I like to stop and see all the food LOL don’t ask me why. Maybe I just like to suffer! I never in my wildest dreams thought I would go two WEEKS of liquids in my life. To be quite honest, it’s a mind f***. Sometimes I feel like I’m starving. Sometimes I feel like I’m depriving my body of nutrients and I don’t feel 100% healthy, but I know I’m doing the right thing for my new baby tummy. The things I would do right now for a little bowl of mac and cheese…

I personally think it would be more difficult to do liquids for an extended period of time pre op. The main reason being is our stomachs are their usual size. Once your stomach is small, you get fuller faster, plus I wasn’t even “hungry” those first few days after surgery. I think 2 weeks of liquids pre op would’ve killed me… major props to those of you who crushed it!

If you’re worried about the liquid stage, do yourself a favor and STAY BUSY! There have been times I’ve felt I’m going crazy because I’m hungry and can’t exactly focus on something like a show or movie. Meals have a way of making us feel content, and without them you just sort of feel like there’s unfinished business to tend to… honestly makes me a little anxious! Sometimes I wish I was working right now. I would also recommend finding a support system. A group of amazing Bariatric girls have been helping me get through all this and I’m so glad I found them.

I’m happy to say I stopped taking all meds except for the Prilosec (Omeprazole) each morning. I still feel the cramps in my chest here and there, but they pass after a minute. I only really wear the binder when I go on walks. I don’t feel the need to use the foam wedge pillows anymore either! Things are starting to feel a bit more back to normal as I continue to regain my strength and energy. The next thing to look forward to is PUREE next week! I believe I’ll be starting that on Wednesday or Thursday. I have an appointment on Tuesday and the doctor will be taking the tape off my stitches and letting me know my exact day to start puree. I’m a little nervous about the tape coming off – hopefully painless!

If you guys have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! I’m here to chat, support, or walk you through anything.
